Swimming and Gymnastics

Hi ya Dylan, What a lucky boy you are. I have so many activities planned for you this spring. Hopefully I will be able to keep up with you. Tuesdays we have a 1/2 hr swimming lesson, Thursdays we have a 1hr playtime at the gym club, and Fridays we do a 1/2hr of Wiggletime at the library. We did our first swimming lesson this past Tues so we only have 5 more to go. Our first lesson was pretty good. We got there early, which was lucky for us as you were not at all at ease for being there. You started with being uncomfortable with the texture of the change room floor on your feet. Next you did not like the noise of the hand dryers that were being used as hair dryers. Next you did not like the strangers, nor the shower and you were extremely insistent to leave the pool area. BUT, we took it nice and slow on getting in the pool. We have been in the pool before, but I think you were a little overwhelmed this time. Our lesson started 30 minutes after our entry into the water. I needed to pay special attention to your shivering as we would be in the pool longer. We started the lesson with mimicking the washing machine, and then a sewing machine. I tried to lie you comfortable on your back resting on my shoulder but you liked keeping your eyes on me. We practiced "Humpty Dumpty" by falling off the pool wall. We did a couple of slide bumps into the water. I tried to get you to blow bubbles, but you kept pulling my face out of the water. ha ha. We got out of the pool and into the hot tub 20 min into the lesson (shivering). A nice little warm up and while sitting in the hot tub, I found out that there is going to be another multiplex building with aquatics, fitness, climbing and library ..... being built down by the courthouse. I am excited about our next lesson.

Today we went to the playcentre before we hit the gymnastics club. I wanted to rent out some toys from the playcentre. So you played there for about 1 hr. One little boy seemed like he was trying to chase you down with a dump truck. ha ha, that's what it looked like. So we went and played with a tall garage and the little boy followed. He was a nice boy with a few words. Next we moved onto the next toy and he wanted you to slide with him. But we needed to move onto gymnastics. We brought home some wooden blocks, shopping cart with groceries and some magnetic fishing wands with fish (hopefully then will be a success in the bath). EXCITING.

After the playcentre, we rushed over to the gym (carefully not to speed at there is photo radar set up in Canmore and they have caught me twice, ahhhhhhhhhhhhh). Gymnastics was day 1 of seesion 2, and we have 9 more visits. You had so much fun today running around. You footing is much more secure and you were stronger and steadier as you climbed, but still not jumping. W tried out the climbing rope. Yu had been on a climbing rope swing before in Southern Ontario (picture) but I could not get any pictures of you today on it with my hands full of you. But as you can see, I got a bunch of gym photos. I was not able to get many first session because you were less steady. So, have a look at the pictures attached.

What else I should tell you is this week you are started to say new sounds. "Gagoo" I think is what you are saying. It is cute sounding, but not sure what it means. You also liked to do part of our walk the other day walking backwards. We stop and spot birds, listen to squirrels and splash in puddles. You love to go up and down the hills and ramps making me run up and down them again and again pulling you in the wagon. hee hee. You don't like having your hands dirty at all, so feeding yourself is an issue. If you have the smallest crumb on your hand, you walk over to the garbage can under the kitchen sink and put it in the garbage. ha ha.

Ok, enough of the chit chat and here are some pictures.

"Under the bridge"

"Through the tunnel". Actually, you balanced very well on this. You were not sure of it last session.

Sorry, a little blurry. Some parents just stand still and not interact with there kids. Ugh! Hopefully I won't get that old and boring.

Back to the bridge.

Trying out the hoola hoop. I am not sure if I mentioned this before, you held onto the hoola hoop while you lied on your belly on a (?) square board with wheels. So I was able to pull you around on wheels through the gym. Does that make sense?? You only started it on the last day of gym, so we will try it again.

"Through the tunnel".

A view of the busy gym. We will eventually graduate to the large trampoline at the back of the gym, but right now we will only try the little ones.
